Welcome!

Hello and welcome to the Optimism Ecosystem Contributions Dashboard! If you're new to this dashboard and you're feeling a bit confused, you've come to the right place.

Help create a better economy for humans

The Optimism Collective is a group of people, projects, and communities creating a better economy for humans.

It believes in the principle of impact=profit and that the positive impact people create for the Collective should be recognized and rewarded with profit. Our economic systems today simply do not uphold this key tenet. Too many valuable projects go underfunded because they don't have a clear path to profitability. The Optimism Collective was founded on the idea that the advent of crypto is a key turning point in our ability to coordinate people from all over the internet towards the common goal of building a fairer economy for all of us.

We need to get $#!7 done

We know that our existing economies aren't fair, but it''s going to take an enormous amount of effort to change that reality. We can do it, but we need to do it together. We have a lot of work to get done, and we need your help. That's where the Optimism Ecosystem Contributions Dashboard comes into play.

The Optimism Ecosystem Contributions Dashboard is a common place where you (yes you!) can contribute to the Optimism Collective and help redefine what an economy can be. Here you'll find many different project ideas and contribution opportunities where you can make a real difference in the future of the Optimism Collective.

Impact deserves profit

The key guiding principle behind the Optimism Collective is the idea that impact for the Collective should be equally rewarded with profit to the individual. Volunteer work is important, but profit scales. We do not assume that everyone should want to, or even be able to, work without the ability to be rewarded for their work.

The primary incentive mechanism employed by the Optimism Collective is the model of Retroactive Public Goods Funding (RetroPGF). Via RetroPGF, the Optimism Collective regularly votes to distribute OP tokens to people and projects who have had a positive impact on the Collective. Any project that has had a positive impact on the Collective is eligible for nomination for RetroPGF. That includes all of the projects included with this repository.

Unlike traditional grants, RetroPGF is a retroactive mechanism, meaning that it rewards people for work that has already been completed. Although RetroPGF is always being improved to more accurately recognize this value, RetroPGF is never 100% guaranteed. One of the goals of this dashboard is to drive contributors towards projects that are likely to be recognized as valuable, but we acknowledge that this reward system may not work for everyone. Optimism Collective governance also offers more traditional grant options for those who prefer that working style.

Find your perfect project

Optimism is for everyone. This repository is filled with projects of all different shapes and sizes that cater to different skillsets. You don't need to be a developer to have a massive impact on the Optimism Collective. We want to help you find the perfect project.

In the README for this repository, you'll find a detailed description of the various different categories of projects that you'll find within this dashboard. We highly recommend starting out by reading through the README carefully to get a sense for the types of projects might find.

Every project within this dashboard is also labeled with a series of tags that highlight the type of work involved in a project. For example, the Tag: Contracts label will show you every project that involves smart contracts while the Tag: Documentation label will show you every project that involves writing or reviewing documentation. Projects are also labeled by their estimated required effort, such as Estimated Effort: Small, and by their estimated impact, such as Estimated Impact: Large.

You can find links to all of the different available labels within the README.
