The Token Engineering Commons (TEC) supports the economic development of the field of token engineering. Since its launch in early 2022, the TEC has granted $470K to bringing engineering rigor to the development of crypto-economic systems. These grants build public faith that is critical to the widespread adoption of blockchain technologies. Our support has also directly benefited Optimism, including Inverter’s programmable smart contract workflows, cadCAD’s Ethereum models, Gravity DAO’s dispute resolution, Praise’s peer-based attested reputation, and the Token Engineering Academy’s graduates. Additionally, the TEC attracts token engineering practitioners to the Optimism developer ecosystem by running our Gitcoin Token Engineering Grants Round on Optimism.
Optimism is now benefiting from TEC cultural investments in Praise and Gravity. Our $174K in grants to the Token Engineering Academy has helped grow Optimism’s talent pool with graduates like Jonas, who now runs its RetroPGF. Other relevant TEC grants include:- $30K to Inverter, whose programmable smart contract workflows help app developers deploy on Optimism.- $54K to cadCAD, a tool used by the EF and others for Ethereum research (e.g. beacon chain, EIP-1559)Our latest Gitcoin Token Engineering Grants Round generated 2,608 contributions from 1,837 individuals on Optimism. It also uses Optimism-based “knowledge proof” NFTs to give an “expertise boost” to 192 Academy students. These rounds help bring the highly technical token engineering community to the Optimism developer ecosystem.
